I love the angle in this amazing image. There’s something weirdly hypnotic about the slant, and the alleyway across the street. It would be great to have a poster print – the bikes are beautiful. Donncha O Caoimh and InPhotos
GIRLS ON BIKES the title of Tanya Chalkin’s 2008 calendar. The concept isn’t original – sexy girl on gorgeous bike is a happy staple on posters and calendars the world over. But this collection is a stylish cut above the rest with 12 desirable shots, all of them beautifully posed.
The bikes are stunning, especially ‘January’ which shows in colour, the classic 650 Triumph Scrambler.
The Scrambler was made famous in 1964 when Steve McQueen rode a 650 at the International Six Day Trial, East Germany. It was a tough race – Steve was forced to retire early after a crash, and his Scrambler was battered.
But the Triumph is a tough beast. The Scrambler was rebuilt to ride the 1965 ISDT, and it continued to race for another decade.
Tanya Chalkin worked with Triumph to create her vivid collection and the calendar is now on sale just about everywhere. If, on the other hand, you just want to oggle the bikes, see the Classic Triumph Calendar 2008.

It’s difficult to choose to favourite. They’re all gorgeous for unique reasons.
Mbali is stunning. She’s a local from the Midlands of KwaZulu Natal, and the photo was shot on location in the Midlands of KwaZulu Natal. I love her expression, the simplicity of the shot and the sepia.
I like the image of Penelope for the same reasons. It’s a brilliant pose of her calm determination as she sits at the end of the quay, waiting for Odysseus to return. If you’re curious about her story, click on her name.
The happy abandon of the three on the beach, and the boy in the rain bring a smile every time. I want to be out there with them, feeling the joy and racing to freedom. Does the Triumph motorbike represent the same kind of feelings? No. I just like shiny machines, and I’m in love with this shot. If I had to pick a favourite, that would be it.
